Supreme Court Official Detained for Sexual Abuse

Ricardo Márquez Blas, head of the Institutional Strengthening Coordination of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN), was arrested under accusations of sexual abuse by a court worker, a complaint that was filed with the Attorney General's Office (FGJ) of Mexico City. According to authorities, the alleged abuse occurred in August, leading to the arrest of Márquez Blas, who had previously worked with Genaro García Luna, the former Secretary of Public Security sentenced in the United States for drug trafficking.

The Public Prosecutor's Office of the Sexual Crimes Unit obtained an arrest warrant against Márquez Blas, and subsequently, the Investigative Police carried out his detention. After a medical evaluation, he was transferred to the Eastern Men's Preventive Prison. According to the investigations, the detainee allegedly committed acts considered sexual abuse against a woman. The arrest took place in the vicinity of the SCJN.

The SCJN reported that Ricardo Márquez Blas is being investigated internally by the General Unit for Administrative Responsibility Investigations (UGIRA) since the complaint was filed against him. The court reaffirmed its commitment to defending women's rights and against gender violence, ensuring that all precautionary measures determined by the UGIRA have been followed since the beginning of the investigation. Márquez Blas holds a degree in Public Administration and Political Science, with experience in federal public administration and a background of working with García Luna during Felipe Calderón's administration.
